Thorpe Park History 2016

2016 is a massive year for the park as the most expensive project in their history Derren Brown’s Ghost Train opens, this new spin on the Ghost Train is going to push the boundaries of theme park effects with the amazing Derren Brown behind the thrills.

Sadly we do lose a ride in 2016 with the closure of Loggers Leap, the parks long standing log flume joins The Flume at Alton Towers on the closed log flumes although it may re-open in 2017. The ride is due to have some behind the scenes upgrades, including safety enhancements although the cost of these may yet out weigh the decision to keep the ride close. In addition The Swarm will have its rear seats faced forward again for the new season, as exclusively revealed on our Facebook Page back in November. The decision to do this comes down to safety in light of the Smiler accident at Alton Towers but it more than welcomed.

There a a few sign updates across the park, those include Storm in a Teacup (only recently changed) along with Rush’s main board. In addition the Neptunes Kingdom boards have been replaced with Amity Beach board, these also spell the change back to using park areas but not the ones used before. Out go Canada Creek, Port Atlantis, Neptunes Kingdom, Calypso Quay, Ranger County and Saw Island. In come Amity Beach, The Jungle, Old Town and Port and Base camp, in the process shifting a few rides around including Samurai and Saw into Old Town.

The park has some shop changes also, with Nitrogenie opening next to the Ghost Train along with Roast and Relish being replaced with Pulled Meat.
