Mainly be due to the fire in 2000 Thorpe installed 3 new thrill rides for this year, well 2 if your not including Zodiac which was in the park after the fire.
Zodiac was now in place as a full time ride, located in a new area call the Lost City this remained the only ride in the park to invert passengers and although showing its age was in working order for 2001.
Also new from the off was the free fall tower Detonator, still regarded as one of the most intense rides at Thorpe Park not only was it the tallest ride in the park it would remain that for the next 5 years until 2006. Detonator is different to other free fall towers, with it pushing you down when releasing the car making it a very intense 100 foot.
Also new for 2001 is perhaps to this day the parks most popular ride. Even after Thorpe getting some bad publicity through Watchdog, Vortex finally arrived in June of that year. This was a UK park first afterburner ride, swinging to heights of 65 feet Vortex swings at such a pace you must brace yourself to feel the force!
2001 also saw Tropical Travels open after damage in the 2000 fire.
