The history of Chessington 2019
The big news for 2019 was the failure of Black Buccaneer. Having opened throughout Winter, the ride was due to re-open for 2019 and was feature on the park map. However it became apparent the ride had an issue, with the park confirming its removal mid season.
2019 continued the children’s offering with the opening of Room on a Broom. Another successsful book adpation opened at the park in place of Hocus Pocus Hall. With a new story and a complete overhaul only the spinning tunnel could be noticed from the previous Hall. Room on a Broom opened in Adventure Point.
Food upgrades also continued in 2019, with the biggest being Dirty Fries replacing Hotdogs in Wild Asia. The new “Not Dogs” was already removed during the 2019 season.
After the opening of Land of the Tigers in 2018, the Sumantran Tigers located in Trail of the Kings were moved out at the end of 2018. This space would soon by occupied by the Bush Dogs which arrived in 2019, Clouded Leopards also arrived at the park.
On the old Carousel site, the game which had been sitting on site was removed for 2019, replaced by the pay per ride cars. These took up more space however did look better than the temp game from previous years.
Big news came from the park in September that the long serving thrill ride Rameses Revenge would close on the 3rd November. The ride was massive back in its day however in recent times only operated on peak days and didn’t fit the image of the park. The replacement at this point was unknown.
The Panda show on the mini stage which had been only peak season in 2018, was removed for 2019. Vampire would be turning 30 in 2020, it wasn’t known at the time but some changes were coming…
