The history of Chessington 2010
2010 sees the first major investment in the park since 2004 with an all new area. However this has meant the end of Beanoland, as Dennis the Menace moves away from Chessington so do the Beanoland themed rides, Dennis’ Madhouse, Bash Street Bus, Roger the Dodgers Dodgems and Billy’s Whizzer. However each of the rides return in 2010 with a new lease of life. Billy’s Whizzer becomes the Monkey Swinger, Roger the Dodgers Dodgems becomes Tuk Tuk Turmoil Dodgems, Dennis’ Madhouse becomes Temple of Mayhem and the Bash Street Bus becomes the Jungle Bus, all now themed to Wild Asia. The big news comes with the new ride for 2010, Kobra, sitting along where the Dodgems and Bus used to be this new Mega Disko ride will take riders through Wild Asia spinning them and taking them to heights of 45 feet. A great family addition to the park. Also new in the area is Lorikeet Lagoon, a aviary walk through of exotic birds and Maharaja’s Market, the new Asia food outlet.
On a park note a new logo was released for 2010, bolder and brighter with Britain’s Wildest Adventure added, this came complete with total new entrances to the park all themed on the wild adventure. Also Black Buccaneers height restriction was changed from 0.9m to 1.0m, Griffins Galleons to 1.2 accompanying adult, from 1.1m, and Tuk Tuk Turmoil to 1.3m accompanying adult, from 1.2m. Market Square Waffles and ices changing to the Ice Factory and The Paws shop was removed soon to be moved by the Children’s Zoo.
Also new for 2010 was the Wanyama Village and Reserve, replacing the fairly new Creature Features which opened in 2006, the reserve moves away from cute and cuddly and moves back to the roots of Chessington, with Zebras and Oryx among a couple of African animals returning to the park.
