The history of Chessington 2004
2004 saw the release of Land of the Dragons and of course Dragon’s Fury. From some clever advertising photos of the massive drop and near vertical turn got everyone talking, with Dragon’s Furys turn the highest of its kind in the world at the point of opening.
Along with Dragon’s Fury came several children’s attraction, they were the rocking tug ride Griffins Galleon and a small round ride Sea Dragons. Land of the Dragons was also house to not only a new show, but a new playhouse and tree houses.
Of course as reported in late 2003, Samurai was now at home in Thorpe Park, and the area in which it sat was now house to Robogeddon, a robot wars clone and Sumo Bungee, a Bungee activity. Disappointing that there was no new ride there for 2004, although it was not really noticed when Land of the Dragons opened. Land of the Dragons was also the first area in the park that was only designed for children and therefore was also the first to be non-smoking.
2004 also new a new map design and a new slogan “Where families come first” The map was a much more natural colour, giving it the retro look. Stage one of Mystic East re-vamp was in place, with Dragon Falls station receiving a much need over haul, also Frazzle was moved to Land of the Dragons, replaced by Rock Climbing, which was moved from Forbidden Kingdom.
