The history of Chessington 2003

2003 was a quiet year for the park in terms of new rides, with the only new ride being Hocus Pocus Hall. This new 4D walk through attraction used unused space which is located at the base of Burnt Stub Mansion which was successfully converted into this great Children’s attraction.

2003 saw very little other wise in terms of installations, in fact there was nothing else However at the beginning of the season rumors were everywhere about many different things and one of which was confirmed by the map in mid April.

That was the installation of a new land for 2004 called Land of the Dragons. It was obviously going to be a Family area, but it wasn’t the advert of shows, tree houses and adventure playhouse that people were looking at. It was the advert for the new family spinning roller coaster. Only the third coaster in 14 years and although very little was known about it, when the plans came out, it looked like it may attract more than your average family.

Construction of the area began in June 2003, this also meant the closure of Action Man Training HQ which had lost its appeal with the market. It would also mean that the old adventure playhouse would finally be removed from the park. Also it was learnt late in the season that Samurai was to go.

On the brighter side Black Buccaneer lived up to its name, and was re-painted black! Made it look new compared to its old brown paint. Also below is a couple of pictures of the entrance from 2003.
