The history of Chessington 1995
One of the biggest years for the park since the large investment in 1990, this was because the parks most intense thrill ride, and the only one in Chessington History to invert, Rameses Revenge, was about to open in June of 1995. Located in the new area created the year before, Forbidden Kingdom, Rameses Revenge became one of two new rides for 1995. The other new ride for 1995 was Sea Storm, located in Smugglers Cove this little family ride is still going strong today and makes a great addition to the park even nearly 30 years old!
A major change for 1995 which by many was overshadowed by Rameses’ arrival was the removal of Circus World. Although the Circus remained, the Clown Coaster and Flying Jumbos were relocated to Toy Town which unfortunately meant the end of the Giraffes, Gibbons and other animals, some were relocated others removed. Also something that went much less advertised, yet was the biggest change for the ride concerned was the re-theme of the Juggler into Calamity Canyon as Rodeo. Not only was the ride re-painted but also aligned flat and the wheel removed from inside the cars. Rodeo wasn’t advertised as new in 1995 but was the best themed ride to move that year. Also removed with Circus World was the popular Dinosaur play area.
Cadbury’s Castle the sweet shop did however open in 1995, a castle full of sweets!
Other noticeable changes for 1995 was the introduction of Dr Chessington, a supposed Dr who was there to ensure that boredom was a thing of the past, and a trip to Chessington would ensure a healthy dose of thrilling fun! True, you bet it was! One thing the park didn’t really do was advertise the new rides coming in 1996 and this was no different.
