Chessington History 1994

With not so much in the way of investment over the past few years Chessington moved into 1994 with the first new area in the park since Transylvania in 1990.

Not just a new area, but also it was goodbye to what was thought at the time to be one of Chessington’s best rides, the 5th Dimension.

The 5th Dimension followed a TV repair robot, Zappomatic on his quest to defeat the evil Gorg inside a TV, with help from yourself who was shrunk down to help by using the “laser button” (which actually did nothing!) The problem was this was not Chessington’s most popular ride and had to be changed.

Changed it they did, with a complete overhaul Forbidden Kingdom was born and more to the point Terror Tomb was born. Set in the new ancient land, Terror Tomb was a total overhaul introducing new (and working!) effects, while you followed Abdab around the tomb on his quest to steal its treasures, but at what cost…?

Although to the trained eye there were a few signs of the 5th Dimension still around, this was a massive project and change for Chessington in 1994.

Also noticeable for 1994 was the re-introduction of the Snow Leopards next to the Tiger/Lion enclosures in Animal Land.
