Chessington History 1993

With no real investment over the last few years preparations were under way for some big changes in 1994 with a lot of activity in the park, most unnoticed. In the mean time the park opened Tiny truckers, another children’s car ride was joined by the Adventure Playhouse in Toy Town.

1993 was also the last season where at the end; the Zoo remained open for the close season of the theme park, until late 2007, when this would be the case again. This was driven by the fact that to make room for the new attractions, both the Hippos and the Elephant’s left the park.

Although not known at the time this would be the last year for the 5th Dimension, which was still being described as a “stunning dark ride” Looking a little worn to be fair (I remember that not all effects were working when I went, especially the “laser” light button) Chessington obviously had in mind that this would be changing sooner rather than later. With the 5th Dimension not really fitting in to what people wanted to see at a theme park and although it was a ride I loved, for many visitors it was seen as a let down once upon the ride.
