The history of Chessington 1991
A year after the parks biggest investment, it would be too much to expect more in the park and there weren’t any new attractions for 1991. Like years to come, there really didn’t need to be, on the back of a roller coaster that was pulling people in from all over the country, investment so soon was not required.
The strange thing about 1991 was the park decided to market Professor Burp’s Bubble Works as a new ride, as shown on the brochure below. It fair to say anyone that visited the park in 1990, probably remembered the Vampire more than any other ride in the park, I did, and it was my first roller coaster! Although I also went on the Bubble Works, it’s not something that stood out as much, especially if you only went on it once.
I imagine that the park saw how popular this ride was becoming, and put there main efforts into advertising a ride that not everyone will have seen, rather than one which people probably came to the park for. In summary, it worked its safe to say that Bubble Works is/was as popular of the Vampire in the modern day.
Also worth looking at, is Chessington rated there rides, this was the only year they did this, and you could say its surprising to see the Magic Carpet down in 11th place, as it was looked upon as there main thrill ride. home.
