The history of Chessington 1988
1988 would be the first full season for the park and they kicked it off with the introduction of Europe’s tallest swinging boat ride, Smugglers Galleon.
The ride was located above the bird gardens (where Wild Woods now is) and took up some space of the children’s play area when opened.
Much like the 5th Dimension even with the introduction of themed areas, Mystic East and Calamity Canyon both rides remained on their own for 1988.
Very little else happened in 1998 as expected after such big investment to get the park open.
