The history of Chessington 2023
2023 introduces the first new coaster at Chessington since Dragon’s Fury in 2004. It comes in the form of the first of its kind B&M Wing Coaster Mandrill Mayhem.
This is the highlight ride of the all new area the World of Jumanji. Based on the fantasy game and the more recent movies, the area is themed complete with Jumanji board, figures and of course the impressive Jaguar Mountain.
3 new rides grace the World of Jumanji, first a ride for the younger audience in the SBF Midi Top Dance, commonly known as a Miami ride themed to a Mamba snake called Mamba Strike. The Second a SBF Super Dancer commonly known as Jumping Frogs. More of a family thrill ride this provides good height and thrills with multiple movements.
The main attraction is a B&M wing coaster called Mandrill Mayhem, standing 65 feet tall this first of a king Shuttle coaster will launch through the station, a Chessington first coaster inversion before making its way down and around the Jaguar before repeating the course backwards. A real step forward for Chessington and will become a firm favourite attraction.
Scorpion Express remained closed the ride in 2022, with the Rattlesnake entrance and tower being re-painted.
Around the park improvements and upgrades are more than we have ever seen. Starting at the Explorer Entrance side, further upgrades in Wild Asia see the entrance receiving an update, with further work also on going on Tiger Rock. Including but not limited to further painting and the base of the drop replaced highlight further upgrades.
Over at Dragon’s Fury the old works shed has been removed to be replaced with a much larger works unit, allowing cars to be worked on at site rather than removed from the area. The big news is the repaint of the rides supports through out the ride with the track to be done at a later date. This continues into Land of the Dragons with Canopy Capers. Various replacements of equipment has also been accompanied by a repaint of the attraction.
In the Rainforest, addition capacity has been added to Jungle Rangers and River Rafts. Over on Crock Drop the structure on the top of the ride has been changed to accomidate engineers to be able to inspect the ride, from the ride rather than scaling the tower.
In Adventure Point, the floor sign has been updated with the parks latest areas, with the area around the Sweet Shop being updated along with the old Safari Skyway building re-imagined. The water wheel, removed for the close season has also returned. Sausage Man also moved into the food outlet.
The flooring around the zoo area of the park has been replaced with a new “Wild” Flooring by the entrance, with Zoo works including upgrades to the Sea Life and Mini Stage.
After the park announced it in late 2022, Coke Freestyle has been introduced to the park in 2023. Whilst this has been introduced the Tortilla outlet has left Mexicana and is replaced by Tacotaria.
On the ride catogory from the park, Griffins Galleon moves from “Little Rangers” to “Family Explorers” Whilst the Gruffalo and Room on a Broom move in the other direction.
